Key Information
Hourly Rate System
Since January 1, 2024, the Netherlands uses a single hourly minimum wage rate for all workers aged 21 and over. This replaced the previous system based on weekly/monthly rates.
Holiday Allowance
The minimum wage includes the mandatory 8% holiday allowance (vakantiegeld). This is typically paid out once a year in May/June.
Age-Based Rates
Workers under 21 receive a percentage of the adult minimum wage: 18 years: 80%, 19 years: 90%, 20 years: 100% (same as adult rate from 2024).
Bi-annual Updates
The minimum wage is adjusted twice yearly - on January 1 and July 1. Increases are linked to average wage growth in the Netherlands.
