Key Information

CCNL System (Contratti Collettivi)

Italy relies on sector-specific collective bargaining agreements (CCNL) to set minimum pay. There are over 900 active agreements covering different industries and professions. These set minimum pay, working hours, overtime, and other employment conditions.

Constitutional Protection

Article 36 of the Italian Constitution guarantees the right to fair pay proportionate to the quantity and quality of work performed, sufficient to ensure a free and dignified existence for the worker and their family.

13th Month (Tredicesima)

Most Italian workers receive 13 monthly salary payments per year. The 13th month (tredicesima) is typically paid in December. Some sectors also include a 14th month (quattordicesima) paid in June or July.

Sector Examples

Typical CCNL minimum wages vary by sector: retail and commerce (~€1,200-1,400/month), metalworking (~€1,400-1,700/month), hospitality (~€1,100-1,300/month). Always check the relevant CCNL for your specific sector.
